NSportz conducted the 4th Edition of the Inter Corporate Rink Football Tournament on Sun 17th July 2016. On a day of erratic climatic conditions from broad daylight to excessive rainfall, 9 corporate teams were slugging it out on the astro turf amidst a lot of fun and excitement highly deserved by the corporate participants away from their daily work pressures.
Teams were divided into 3 groups of 3 each with the top 2 teams from every group moving on to the quarter finals. From Group A it was team Emirates & Rustomjee who qualified as they prevailed over team Hicare Lions who despite having lost both their matches managed to win the hearts of people with their positive attitude & passion for the game. Group B saw Barclays and Kotak Life prevailing with the first timers Dun & Bradstreet narrowly losing out especially in their match with Kotak. Group C saw the Taj Hotels & Shoppers Stop qualifying with the Hicare Falcons teams showing a lot of fighting spirit before finally succumbing to their established rivals.
The action moved to the knockouts stage with Emirates prevailing over Kotak Life 4 - 1, Barclays getting the better of Shoppers Stop 2 - 1, and Taj Hotels prevailing over Rustomjee gunners 6 - 0. Shoppers qualified for the semis despite their quarter final loss as the lucky losers by virtue of their better goal difference over the other losing quarter finalists Kotak Life & Rustomjee Gunners.
The semi finals turned out to be the best matches of the tournament as all 4 teams seemed equal in all departments of the game with both the semis getting decided on penalties . Emirates & Shoppers were tied 1 - 1 at the end of regulation time and the penalties saw Emirates prevailing 3 - 1. Taj Hotels & Barclays were tied 3 - 3 at the end of regulation times with Taj Hotels prevailing 3 - 1 in the penalties paving the way for an exciting final.
In the battle of two service industry giants where goals were hard to come by, the Taj Hotels team managed to shoot one towards the end of the game prevailing 1 - 0 over the Emirates team and deservedly winning the tournament.
All in all the participants had a great time as did the organizers who had fun organizing the same.
